Overview

Methane gas in the soil occurs naturally from ancient buried organic material, swamps, bogs, glacial till geological areas, silty soils, natural gas and oilfields geologic formations or results from human acts of buried modern organic material, engineered dirt fill, leaking storage tanks and various other industrial or commercial chemical spills.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates soil and vapor intrusion exposures with goals to clean up contaminated soil/sediment and vapor intrusion to prevent adverse effects to human health and the environment by protecting the integrity of the nation’s soil/sediment and air resources.

Solution

For the past 25 years Sonic has been involved with various methane gas soil and vapor intrusion remediation projects with Universal Studios-Hollywood, residential housing development, Vista Del Rio Community-Commerce, CA and Pick-A-Part Salvage Park-Monrovia, CA, to name a few.

Sonic worked with environmental solution firms to provide engineering designs of soil vapor mitigation systems. System designs include passive soil gas extraction/venting and air dikes or barrier membranes. Sonic also provides explosion proof systems for explosive vapor mitigation.

  • For Universal Studios-Hollywood, a 20HP Sonic Air Blower System extracts methane gas for the backdraft stage of methane mitigation.
  • For Vista Del Rio Community, a dual 10HP Sonic Air Blower System with integrated monitoring controls to serve as air dike/barrier membranes for methane gas.
  • For Pick-A-Part Salvage Park, a dual 7.5HP Sonic Air Blower Weather-Proof System with monitoring controls of panel monitors, motor soft-starters, pressure switches, and data recorder to serve as air dikes/barrier membranes for methane gas

Results

Sonic Air Blowers Systems meet the customers’ high quality, low maintenance performance requirements as our robust Air Blowers operate 24/7 without down time. The customers are passing the regulatory agency’s rigorous inspections with flying colors; safeguarding the health & wellbeing of the theme park guests and workers, community residents and workers and customers of the salvage park. The Sonic Air Blower Systems housed in stainless steel enclosures produces less than 80dBA, meeting OSHA standard as well.
